People are funny…

I sit through a fair amount of conferences (academic and otherwise) yearly. I sit through colloquiums about once or twice a month. I volunteer to be a ‘fake student’ that Grad Students get to practice their presentations on (I’m a masochist) and inevitably – at each one – someone goes “but why didn’t you research insert other topic totally unrelated to their expertise here but something that the person posing the question has amassed years of experience in” to which, normally, someone (usually me) replies “they could have researched cup cake recipes if they wanted to, they didn’t, get over it…” And then the person will ask again “But why didn’t they research…” and usually, after having that happen four or five times we manage to break them free from the hamster wheel they seem to have gotten themselves stuck in.

I’m waiting for the day when I can go “but what are your thoughts on yaoi!?” and have someone else, other than withfangs), get it.
